Sentimental Journey (Chordettes)

I work at a Hospice in London, Ontario. One of my roles is I run the Threshold Choir, where we sing bedside, a cappella in a hushed lullaby voice in three part harmony. We have our little bedside stools and sit and sing quietly around the bed. It is quite moving. There are over 250 Threshold Choirs around the world. The daughter of a resident, asked if we knew the song, "A Sentimental Journey" as it was their "parent's song". (their parents have been married for 70 years). The song is not in our repertoire, but a choir member searched for the perfect arrangement and we only had one small practice. I asked the family if we could come in and sing it to them bedside. The gentleman sat in his recliner and our choir started singing. While we were singing, his wife kept on getting up to kiss his forehead and rub his back. It was truly beautiful. He clapped as we were leaving. It was an incredible offering. After we sang to this family, the daughter came into our practice room and informed us that he had died 90 minutes after our offering. Our choir was in awe. How fitting, that his last song he heard was A Sentimental Journey. How truly fitting.
